Motivating Me, Motivating YOU!

Staying motivated is important for achieving your goals and finding success. How you stay motivated, however, can be tricky.

The same outlet you’ve been finding motivation in can become ineffective. For example, we all have that one “pump-up” song.  You may listen to the song before every workout but, at a point, does it become less motivating? It can. This could be from the repetition or maybe you have changed as an individual and are navigating to another song. This is more than okay, but you need to identify at what point you need a change.

Noticing a Change

You’re in the gym and you keep skipping songs on your workout playlist. You’ve had this station for months and it has been working, but now you are becoming distracted.

Songs are just an example of where your motivation can come from. Everyone has their own unique outlet(s) of finding that inner drive. From videos to quotes to photos, you probably have your own unique resource. Once that form of motivation starts to become tired, you are ready for a change! Embrace it. Your next choice may work even better.

Finding Motivation

First decide: What are your goals? What are you getting motivated for? If you don’t know how to set goals, check out my last blog post! http://biancablogs.com/2016/01/25/setting-goals-together/

There are many places to find motivation, but the best place is to find it within yourself. There are several ways to go about finding and maintaining that motivation! Try out some of these ideas (they really do work!)

  1. Find Inspiration – Make an inspiration board on Pinterest, on paper, or in your phone. This is similar to the process of a “Dream Board” where you will find people, places, blogs, etc. that inspire you. Other places to find inspiration include magazines, newspapers, and all social media sites!
  2. Announce Your Goal – By posting your goal online you are more likely to accomplish them. The appreciation and compliments from others will further encourage you to keep pushing for the finish line! Online, you may find a network of others looking to reach that same goal. The goal feels more “real” when you place it in writing and you won’t want to let any of your friends, family, and followers down.
  3. Never Give Up – Giving up shouldn’t be an option! Finding creative ways to tackle the goals and challenges you have set yourself is crucial in staying interested. If you were aiming to run your first 5K, find new places to run to keep inspiration. This goes for any route you’ve decided to take. Stick to your goals because you’ll feel so rewarded afterwards.
  4. Make a Plan – Don’t jump in head first. You should write up a plan and set a date that you want to start. Decide on how you want to go about doing it and get ready for Day 1! I suggest starting on a Monday. It is much easier to start at the beginning of the week to build motivation than the end.
  5. Find Someone Who Shares Your Passion – If you have a friend, relative, or fellow classmate/coworker who is interested in accomplishing the same, motivate each other! This way it’s even MORE exciting when you both succeed! If it’s a competition: how great will it feel when you cross that finish line together?
  6. Watch Motivational Videos – Motivational speeches and videos are an incredible tool for getting amped up for the day. Before a workout, big meeting, or interview watching a motivational video will give you that extra confidence boost and rush of adrenaline/excitement that you need to succeed!

I made a list, found a plan, and followed many social media accounts with photos, tweets, and posts that motivate me. I have been watching TED Talks to motivate my class success; articles and videos to motivate my workouts and everyday life. They have been working well for me, so why not for you? It’s worth a try, trust me.

I have always had a difficult time committing to a goal and motivating myself to get there, but I have decided to change that. Starting this blog was step one and I have moved into step two: creating goals and COMPLETING them!
