Boxing Benefits

Have you ever wanted to try a kick-ass workout that is fun, fierce, and effective?

There are many different forms of workouts to try, but this is BY FAR my favorite. There are gyms specific to boxing, martial arts studios, and everyday gyms that offer these classes. I started going to Firicano Boxing & Fitness Center here in Stoneham, MA and I have been loving every minute of every class (mostly).

You don’t realize how effective the workout combination of boxing on bags and HIIT style weight & cardio workouts is until you’ve done them six days in a row. You may feel sore at first, but after a week or so you’ll be stronger than before! My results have been noticeable to myself and others to the point where I feel more
confident in my abilities at the gym.

Listen, I’m not saying you need to be the next Rocky Balboa… but does it hurt to try? With his mentality how could you NOT succeed? Put it into perspective. Finding motivation in the boxing realm is not difficult.

Through blood, sweat, and tears boxers find a way to pull through.

So, what can BOXING do for you?

  • Fat Burning –

Boxing burns TONS of fat! More than weight-lifting, according to an article on Livestrong. You can burn anywhere between 500 and 600 calories per hour of boxing. Think about the fat loss potential!

  • Muscle Building

Simply using the punching bag will not build the muscle you’re looking to achieve, but focusing on the strength training intervals will. Boxers appear lean and toned, but it doesn’t come without dedication to all areas of the gym!

A class at my boxing gym typically includes 30 minutes of boxing on the bag and with an instructor followed by 30 minutes of strength, HIIT workouts, and ABs.

  • Endurance

Having endurance is important to winning a boxing match, crossing the finish line at your next race, and for everyday activities. Cardio (i.e. walking, running) are the most common exercises related to endurance training.

Boxing IS cardio training if your heart rate is up throughout your workout. Punching and exerting energy onto the bag will really make you sweat and for good reason! All of these actions and ‘moves’ are building more endurance.

  • Stress Relief

Sometimes we want to knock each other out when we’re stressed, right? Well, why not take it out on the punching bag! Boxing is the perfect way to take out anger while improving your body.

Most forms of exercise increase endorphines and decrease overall stress.  Boxing will leave you feeling satisfied and get rid of any built up tension you may have leftover from the work (or school) day. I know it does this for me.  You use so much mental concentration and power during your boxing reps that you’ll barely have time to think about your stressors.

Local gyms are the best for getting a concentrated workout, but chains like Title Boxing are also available to try! They even offer their first class for FREE.

I have seen great improvement in both mental and physical health since I started boxing. I encourage everyone to try it out!
