Harvest A Healthy Home

The everyday grind may leave you stressed out. Nothing beats the moment you come home from a long day to kick off your shoes and lay back like the couch potato wannabe you are. It is in this moment you feel “at home” but do you? The home can use some love every season. After hearing that Pantone’s 2017 color is green I knew I wanted to change up my decor to make the home more healthy and peaceful.

You may be wondering… what did I do? Well, I filled small pots with vibrant green plants and carefully placed them around the house. This idea is inspired by an article I read via Huffington Post titled ’10 Best Houseplants To De-Stress Your Home And Purify The Air.’ Check out where I placed my plants and get some inspiration on how to lay our yours!

The first step you should take is decide where the plants will go and then purchase coordinating planters like the one’s below, depending on your room of choice. Owls are one of my favorite animals so, of course, I included them in my natural, green design.

This was the perfect day to sit in the sunshine and plant. Inside it actually felt pretty warm! The sun is great for healthy plants and we could all use a little more Vitamin D this time of year. These plants increase oxygen throughout the home and decrease toxins.

The 2017 anointed color, Greenery, a “zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring,” was announced Thursday. “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape,” said the release from Pantone, which provides professional color standards for many industries (Koncius).

Green can help us all to relax amidst a world of chaos. This shirt from Sevenly says ‘ BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD’ and that is an ideal I am going to live by this year. 2017 can be full of happiness and relaxation and it starts in the home!

Lily

The lily is an easy plant to take care of. It requires little to no maintenance. This is perfect for the bedroom because it is able to live in cooler areas with little sun. The lily represents purity, passion, and hope. It is often viewed as a plant with feminine qualities which explains why the female eye is so attracted to it. Having this in your room will reduce many toxins and, knowing the meaning, allow you to clear your mind and dream big!

Golden Pothos

The Golden Pothos grows in cooler areas. It is known for it’s ability to clear formaldehyde from the air. The way the leaves grow and part is so pretty! I couldn’t decide where to put this plant as it looks great in every room. A few options I suggest are in the kitchen, dining room, or bedroom. It looks nice against a white or brown surface for a bold contrast to the color.

English Ivy

Ivy is another plant that is known by NASA for it’s ability to reduce formaldehyde from the air in your home. It is easy to grow and you can hang it or place it in a pot. I placed it up on the top of our china cabinet in the dining room. It is the perfect size and grows quickly so we have labeled it ‘GROW’ for inspiration to everyone who sees it when they walk in. It does need some sun so it’s place in the window is suitable.

Bamboo Palm

Is this not one of the most tranquil plants you have seen? I never thought to use it for my own decoration but it makes a huge difference in the living room. It makes everything so peaceful. It is effective for clearing out benzene and trichloroethylene from the home. They do need to be watered frequently to maintain their beautiful appearance so be sure to take good care of them!

Snake Plant

“Snake plant” may sound scary but it certainly doesn’t look so. The detailed patterns on the leaves are unique. They don’t need too much water or light and can grow rather tall. These plants do an exceptional job of absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen to purify the air around your home. This plant does need a larger base which is why I went with a heavier metal planter.

Cactus & Spider Plant

This is the window of our office. I didn’t want to go too overboard with a giant plant since it’s surrounded by windows on all sides. These two plants (cactus and spider) are perfect for standing out in the natural light that we have in this room every day. The yellow planters give a splash of fun color and do a great job of boosting positivity and brightening up the day (especially while you’re working in the office).
