HAIRraising Benefiting Boston Children’s Hospital

It’s time to get on board with HAIRraising for Boston Children’s Hospital. 

On April 29th, 2018 over 70 top hair salons across the Greater Boston Area will be participating in the 9th annual HAIRraising event. The HAIRraising Cut-a-thon is a one-day fundraiser where 100% of haircut proceeds benefit the Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital.There is a minimum donation at some locations, but all of it is donated to the cause.

I went into Stilisti on Newbury Street to chat with the staff about their excitement for the event and they were clearly very passionate about it. My stylist, Andrew, explained how he has been with then every year they have done it and can’t believe how incredibly it’s blossomed into this large-scale event (growing every year!). Stilisti is one of the top-fundraising salons and aims to achieve that again this year. Boston 10 Press Feature in the video HERE.

If you’ve been meaning to get a haircut and have one scheduled, consider waiting until the 29th and make an appointment that will allow you to give back to an incredible cause. You can bring the kids because they’ll also be doing their hair as well! Many salons will be offering other fun activities on this day so the kids can have fun while you get a little R&R at the salon.

How It All Began | 

The founder of the HAIRraising event is Gail Federici, CEO of Federici Brands. Her daughter underwent two open-heart surgeries and was saved by participating in a Boston Children’s Hospital clinical trial. The care Boston Children’s gave her family was so wonderful and, of course, life-saving that Gail new she wanted to give back in some way. 2009 was the year she teamed up with her business partner (and international hair legend), John Frieda, to make HAIRraising a success.

The communities in and around Boston are passionate about giving back to local and national charities. There are so many charitable events in Boston for a variety of causes and HAIRraising is a one of the most unique one’s I’ve had the honor of sharing in a while. I have visited local hospitals in the past to talk to the kids and always leave feeling so fulfilled and blown away by their positivity and strength.

Today, HAIRraising has brought in more than $1.2M for Boston Children’s Hospital Heart Center. The funds continue to allow the hospital’s surgeons and researchers to deliver advanced medical and surgical treatments for a many cardiac diseases and disorders. With a 99% survival rate, treatments have and will continue to save many lives from around the globe.
