Our Proposal Story | How He Asked

I haven’t shared a blog since Father’s Day because life has been crazy. Part of that crazy has been planning a wedding. YES. Paul popped the question on June 26th and I have been so overjoyed! As many of you know, we have been together since my freshman year of high school. I’ll share the story of how we met but first wanted to give you the scoop on how he asked.

Having been together for so long, getting engaged was something I anticipated happening this year. Like most long-term couples, we had talked about getting married and spending our lives together. But, I had no idea when and where it was going to happen. With our lack of activity during the pandemic, everything felt very up in the air.

It started off as a completely normal day of working and blogging. I grabbed brunch with a good friend in the afternoon and was surprised when Paul asked if I’d like to grab dinner at a favorite local restaurant ( had been trying to save money by staying in and not ordering out). It’s a nicer spot that we hadn’t been to since 2019 so I was all for the invitation.

Cutting it close, I rushed home to clean myself up. It was an absolutely gorgeous night for dinner on the patio and we enjoyed every minute of it. After a few drinks, a satisfying bite, and lively dinner conversation Paul asked if I wanted to go for a walk – a very rare occurrence. At this point I had a feeling he wanted to talk to me about something but wasn’t sure.

We opted for a waterside trail I’d never been to before called Strawberry Hill. By the time we made it to the sand I 100% regretted wearing a maxi dress and sandals because it was so muddy! It was only minutes before I kicked my shoes off and ran ankle deep into the water. Paul, likely not surprised by my usual ridiculousness, watched me taking in the incredible view that concludes the trail.

When I was walking back he said he wanted to show me something and waited for me to walk over. He was pointing to something in the water and facing away from me when he turned around with the box in his hand… I immediately started crying. I think he was surprised by my reaction LOL but I was just so in-the-moment excited!

I SAID YES đź’Ť We had a sweet woman nearby take photos for us and walked back to his truck where he popped a bottle of Veuve. When we got back to the house we called and texted our family and friends, posted on social, and continued the celebration. It was a weekend full of joy and I couldn’t have asked for anything more perfect from the love of my life.

I’ve been on a high since then with the planning and time spent together. A lifetime together was never a question for me as I’ve known he was the one since we met at the ripe ages of 15 and 16. Through high school, college, our first ‘adult’ jobs, and growing pains that accompanies, we’ve remained so close. Every moment has felt so right and I am very thankful.

Cheers to our future together!
